UR3J supports the existing J1772 market while enabling an easy upgrade to NACS (SAE J3400). Simply replace the charging cable, no charger replacement required, giving you greater flexibility to adapt inventory and product offerings as market demand shifts.

Upgrade to Energy-Aware Charging — Optional EnerSync
The optional EnerSync Power Monitor adds an awareness of the rest of the house: it reads the main panel in real time and trims charging current when demand climbs, so a 48A charger can live on a service that could not otherwise support one. Solar-priority charging and power sharing between multiple chargers run from the same device, and the logic stays local, an internet outage does not stop it.

Is SAE J1772 still worth building a product around?
Yes, for the installed base. Most EVs currently in use across North America charge over SAE J1772, and that fleet will stay on the road for years. New models are moving to NACS (SAE J3400), which is why UR3J and the NACS UR3N are the same charger with a different cable: you can serve today's fleet and follow the market without a second development program.

How do I move UR3J from J1772 to NACS?
By changing the cable, on the wall. The cable is a replaceable assembly — unplug the J1772 cable, plug in the NACS cable. The unit does not go back to the factory, no re-certification is required because the approvals cover both cable types, and the warranty is unaffected.

Can Tesla and other NACS vehicles charge from UR3J?
